The Big Block Camaro Is Back on the Lift

The Big Block Camaro Is Back on the Lift

You know that feeling when a project car disappears into the corner of the shop for a little too long?

Yeah, that's where our 632 Camaro found itself, until Zac stopped by and pulled it from the back of the warehouse it found itself in.

The good news? It's back. The bad news? We had to take a whole lot of it apart to figure out exactly what years of abuse, events, launches, dyno pulls, and general Hoonigan behavior had done to it.

Best part is - You're a part of the team, have a peek behind the scenes!

The Rescue

When this thing first came together, the goal was simple: shove Chevrolet's new absurd ZZ632 big-block into a third-gen Camaro test mule and build the most ridiculous naturally aspirated street-and-track machine we could in 21 days for SEMA 2021 (with engine #001)

Mission accomplished.

After a hard life, the 632 started showing signs that it needed attention (like catching on fire). Instead of slapping bandages on problems, we decided to go give the car a once over – and set it up for a new life running Drag and Drive events.

Tearing it apart

The more we dug into it – the more it needed (Missing bell housing bolts, typical project car s#!t).

Zac, Suppy, Grimm and the team sent the engine off to Samir at Gromm Racing for some sleeves, bearings, and honing and continued with the tear down to prep for all the new goodies.

Race Car Parts Only

Weak points got identified.

Wear items got replaced.

We stepped down the rear breaks to fit a smaller wheel for some better bite.

1,000 horsepower is cool, but being able to use 1,000 horsepower repeatedly is cooler so reliability is a big focus this go around thanks to an easier deadline to work with.

American Racing hooked up the build with the brand new 17x10 +42 offset 3 piece grooved drag wheel, featuring a bead retention system on top of the typical bead lock.

What's Next?

The teardown is done, the upgrades are underway, and there’s just a few (most) things waiting to go back in the car.

The big-block isn't going anywhere. The 632 will be back and better than ever soon!

Stay tuned. The Camaro's getting the kind of treatment every project car deserves.
