When you think “Pikes Peak Special”, you’re probably thinking of Audis, Evos, Porsches, open wheel cars… all clad with giant aero and more carbon fiber than all of Nopi nationals combined. What you probably don’t think about is a diesel 70s Volkswagen Beetle. But when it’s PDK swapped, and compound turbo’d to the tune of 500 ft-lbs of torque, it all starts to make sense that a few of Europe’s celebrated rallyists thought it would be a good idea to take this thing up the world’s highest hillclimb race.
